University of Virginia Rankings and Recognition

In 2009, The University of Virginia was ranked as the second best public university in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report. Two years earlier the University’s undergraduate program was also ranked number two out of not just public universities but private ones as well. In the 20-year history of University of Virginia rankings, the university has never dropped out of the Top 25, and the University of Virginia has ranked as either number one or number two every single year that U.S. News has ranked public universities in their own category.

The University of Virginia has had many highly considered graduate programs that U.S. News and World Report ranked each in their respective fields, among the top 10. Some of these programs include Tax Law, American Literature, U.S. Colonial History, and Special Education. A very famous poet by the name of Edgar Allen Poe attended the University of Virginia in 1826, where he took classes in French and German, during the same timeframe that the original Rotunda was still being constructed.

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation is a program that offers a set of full four year tuition scholarships based on international, regional, and at-large competitions. High schools nominate students who are then interviewed and invited to attend a weekend-long series of tests as the college determines their aptitude, suitability, and strength of character. Only approximately three percent of the students that are nominated for this scholarship receive it.

The University of Virginia offers a total of 94 master’s degrees, 48 bachelor’s degrees, 55 doctoral degrees, and 6 educational specialist degrees. It also offers 2 first-professional degrees, which are in medicine and law, to its students.

The University of Virginia has a huge Library System that holds a whopping 5 million volumes of text. It also has an Electronic Text Center that has 70,000 books put online as well as 350,000 images and illustrations that accompany them. This is the largest collection of electronic texts held by a university in the world. These books are open to the public as well as to students, and the Library receives thousands of visitors daily.

Cleveland State University Information

Located in Cleveland, Ohio, US, Cleveland State University is a public university. It was founded way back in 1870 initially just as a location for free classes. Later this Cleveland Y.M.C.A. School Of technology was renamed as Fenn College in 1929. This college started expanding all around and became The Cleveland State University founded by State of Ohio on 18th Dec 1964.

The academic offerings of the university claims to have innovative collaboration with business, industry, government, and educational institutions. For undergraduates and graduates, varieties of major and minor programs are available in the university. For undergraduate majors, ranging from accountancy, anthropology and biology, there are numerous options available. Many colleges are part of the graduate programs here in the university. For masters and doctoral degrees too, there are separate colleges. In the college of liberal arts and sciences, master’s degree programs are available for Applied Communication Theory and Methodology, Economics, English, Fine Arts in Creative Writing, History, Music, Spanish, etc. in the Nance College of Business Administration, various doctoral degree and master’s degree programs are available. Some joint programs like Master of business administration and master of nursing etc are also present here.

In the college of education and human services, different master’s degrees can be pursued. Ranging from Adult learning and Development, Community Health Education to School counseling are available courses here. In Fenn College of Engineering, doctoral degrees of applied biomedical engineering and engineering are the courses available. The graduates can get master’s degrees of Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, Industrial, and software engineering here. In the college of science, doctoral degrees of regulatory biology, physical therapies etc are available. Biology, environmental science, health sciences, mathematics, psychology, etc are the master’s degree programs. There is also one more Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs here where too different doctoral, master’s degree programs area available. A student can also get graduate certification programs here.

As a part of graduate and post-graduate education, research programs are carried out in the university. The Office of Sponsored programs and research (OSPR) is the baseline society responsible for achieving goals of research in the university by applying various programs. For more flexible study schedules, the students can opt for e-learning courses, fully online courses, interactive video distance learning or blended courses. Also for students who want to utilize the vacation time, summer study courses are available. For working students, evening and weekend courses are also available.
